Siem Reap, Cambodia 2009

Pia had a speaking engagement in Siem Reap, Cambodia for UNDP.  I was very happy to go with her.  I had never been to Cambodia before.  Siem Reap is very historic and quaint, blending old world architecture with modern cafes, restos and luxury hotels.  It is a gem, and I am keen to visit it again.

I have always wanted to see Angkor Wat.  I am so grateful that I finally had the chance to do so.  I volunteered my services to Pia so to speak!  My dad always told me that it is important for me to see it.  He was right.  It took my breath away.  It always amazes me how beautifully intricate traditional Asian Architecture is.  And in these temples this fact is magnified a thousand times.

Loven Ramos took Pia and I to other temples to, which were equally impressive.  I love how in the Bayon, Mother Nature took over and just became an integral part of the structure.  Loven is the best guide ever, he explained so many things to us along the way.  He even pointed out to us where the exact Center Of The Universe is according to the Khmers–it was a small plain square tile.  You will see me in a lotus position on this very tile, I was trying very hard to summon all the Divinity that could be showered upon me, hehe.  I sure hope it worked!!!

Cambodian Leadership Retreat for Women Parliamentarians

Pia was invited to be a speaker and guest of honor at the Cambodian Leadership Retreat for Women Parliamentarians this September 2009.  She made quite a strong and positive impact being the current President of the Women Members of the International Parliamentary Union.  The Cambodians were very happy to have her with them.  Personally I felt glad that even though our political situation at home is far from being perfect, I can honestly say that our women NGOs, leaders and politicians are a cut above the rest especially in Asia.  And trust me I am speaking from experience, having grown up with my mom!

Ramon Magsaysay Awards 2009

Pia, my mom and I recently attended the Ramon Magsaysay Awards at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.  It is the Asian equivalent of the Nobel Prize and I am proud to say that the Filipinos took initiative in establishing honors to worthy individuals in our region.  The six awardees of this batch are all amazingly accomplished people in their respective fields.  I was moved by their work and their passion to contribute. You can check out .

Post Cam Sur All Ladies Dinner

The girls I coach in Polo Club had excellent races in Cam Sur, and they deserved a good celebration.  Just having dinner with your fellow tri-girls can prove to be so much fun, especially with Tessa and Jeena around!  A toast to all the tough chicks out there!!!

Lance Watson Talk

Official Coach Lance Watson was in Manila to give us a talk.  I learned a lot from him and he is one of the best in our sport today. Here is our group picture with all the coaches of the Triathlon Association of the Philippines and Tom Carrasco our President.

Timex Ironman 70.3 Philippines Launch Party

ani and tessa

I was asked to co-host the Timex Ironman 70.3 Philippines Launch Party along with Monster Radio RX 93.1 DJ Gino Quillamor.  I was kind of nervous at first but eventually got the hang of it with the help of Gino and had so much fun! Thanks to Gemma Pagsibigan of Timex for entrusting me with the job 🙂

The bash was filled with filled to the brim with Ironmen and Women, including some of my favorite girls included in the photos here- Tessa, Leica, Team Women’s Health Relay members Lara, Debbie, and Christine.  I was happy to be introduced to Marc Nelson as well (which woman in her right mind would not be?) and he gave me tips on how to host the program too.

Thanks so much to TIMEX for putting up an awesome party for the triathletes and for always supporting us!!!
